MYSORE: In the run up to the December deadline, the district administration has issued directives to officials to implement Aadhaar, the project to issue unique identification number, on priority basis.
In a circular, DC Harsh Gupta has asked the officials to create awareness about the UID project so that it is a success in Mysore that has been selected on a pilot basis by the Union and state governments.
The project, which was launched here on October 8 with enrolment of chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, is aimed at covering all residents in Mysore district by December-end.
The DC has asked the assistant commissioners in Mysore and Hunsur sub-divisions, who head the taluk-level panels and tahsildars to ensure that the project is implemented effectively by reviewing its process fortnightly and holding meetings with the implementing agency.
In the run up to the project implementation, the first in Karnataka, the district administration tested the process and mechanism by taking samples from rural, semi-urban and urban areas in April-May. It detailed the project during a workshop in September-end.
The taluk-level committees have a mandate to enroll the residents and issue ID numbers to them. "They should hold review meetings with the nodal officials appointed at hoblis in the taluk once in 15 days," he has stated in the circular emphasising the need to create awareness about its benefits. He has asked them to use various methods to reach across to the target groups and has sought compliance reports from the ACs and tahasildars on the directives.
