BARNSTABLE - Barnstable County Sheriff James M. Cummings yesterday announced receipt of its first-ever iris biometric grant awarded by the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA).
The award is for a complete iris biometric system, valued at $10,000, and will come at no future cost to taxpayers.
Sheriff Cummings thanked Massachusetts 10th District Congressman William Delahunt for his national leadership and commitment, “together ensuring Barnstable and Plymouth counties will be the first recipient of this grant program. I am also honored and frankly a bit flattered that the NSA has chosen us to kick off this critical public safety initiative. Truth be told, there is no local money in these hard economic times – and surely none in my budget – for something like this.
