Diebold, one of the world's leading security integrators, has unveiled a new ATM featuring an anti-skimming card reader and biometric finger vein readers.
Diebold’s new 5500 series will also have security camera provisioning, encryption technology and monitoring services, the firm said in a 14 October press release.
"Institutions have been clear in the necessity to build efficiencies and lower costs while still delighting their customers with leading-edge, secure technologies and stellar service - even in challenging environments," said Frank A. Natoli, Jr., executive vice president and chief innovation officer, Diebold.
"The 5500 series delivers on what institutions need and what consumers want. It's a perfect example of how we're realizing our vision to drive collaboration and purposeful innovation to get meaningful solutions to market quickly."
Diebold’s anti-skimming solution, ActivEdge approaches skimming by requiring users to insert cards into the reader via the long edge, instead of the traditional short edge. By shifting a card's angle 90 degrees, the firms says ActivEdge prevents all modern skimming devices from reading the card's full magnetic stripe, eliminating the devices' ability to steal card data.
